EU Ledger Bootcamp
Mesensei attended EU LEDGER bootcamp in Sicily. Our team was driven to village of Giampilieri, which was devastated by mudslides in 2009. In the village we learned what happened and we got a challenge to design a concept which can save lives in the future.
We visited Giampilieri and interviewed the villagers using our community design framework. Our objective was to design a human centric solution based on openness and citizen data under the theme of “To Live And Prosper Together, Protecting The Village And The Land”.
We identified a complex set of layered challenges and a need to balance short term gains with long term sustainability. Together with community leaders we co-created a solution which helps to bring the village out of isolation and mobilise the volunteers in case of a new emergency.
Giampilieri community app will be built on a decentralised social media platform by Mesensei. The app helps the community to organise and host the “La Notte Della Rinascita” festival and other events. It also doubles as an early warning system, which can be used to for mobilising the community volunteers in case of an emergency.
The long term vision includes introduction of virtual currency and experimental supplementary local economy models currently under development by Mesensei and Aalto University in the LEDGER -program.
